We’ve been wrong about what our job is in medicine. We think our job is to ensure health and survival. But really it is larger than that. It is to enable well-being.
Written from the perspective of a former surgeon, this book gives such an insightful approach to how medicine can not only “improve life but the process of its ending as well”.
It’s such a beautifully written book, and not only does it focus on different aspects of medicine but also the ethics behind death in general. One of the big parts of being in the medical profession or area is dealing with death. Depending on the field you choose to go in, some might experience death on a daily basis and knowing how to deal with it and really focus on easing the fear of death is crucial to be able to last longer in the industry.
I would really recommend this book, it has so much meaning and gives so much perspective to life working in medicine.
